Background to PPM Workshops A summary of the PPM workshops can be accessed by pressing here.
Background to DRM workshops Over the past 8 years, over 20 DRM workshops have been facilitated in both Australia and overseas. The overseas locations have included PNG, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, South Africa, Madagascar and the UK. The key aspects of this DRM training include the following: - The workshop plus assignment is accredited at postgraduate level for off-campus courses at five Australian universities (see link at p.4 of DRM workshop brochure for more details). The universities involved are Deakin, RMIT, Murdoch, Curtin and Charles Sturt. - Over 100 organisations have sent people on these workshops (see p.2 of DRM workshop brochure for more details), with the total number of participants being in excess of 300 - As part of our teaching, we use a number of useful diagrams (see the 'Useful Diagrams' section of this website for links to these). Two of these are Disaster Risk Management Cycle (DRMC), and the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) diagram, and both of these can also be sighted at the end of the DRM workshop brochures - We've included a useful DRM Selected Bibliography at a link on p.4 of each DRM workshop brochure - We include in the training a couple of sessions on Key DRM Issues; as well as modules on Psycho-social Support and community Well-Being Recovery; DRM-related Project Management/Human Resource Management/Security Management Issues; and Humanitarian Standards and Codes of Conduct - We tend to look at a number of major disaster case studies, these including the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami; the 2008 Myanmar/Burma Cyclone Nargis; the 2009 Australian Victorian Bushfires; and the 2010 Haiti Earthquake - We view, and afterwards discuss, a powerful documentary on the 2004 Indian Ocean Tsunami - We draw on participants DRM experience, and include this in some pressurised group work we cover during the final afternoon
